River Road Newsletter! March 2024

As we start to near the end of another term, we hope you have hit your creative goals and ready to progress to the next stage of your creative development! This month we continued to work with NSW Health on a Comedy and Music Variety night, scheduled for Friday 12th April, 6pm-8pm at Bowral Memorial Hall. This will include Wollondilly and Wingecarribee comedians who recently participated in our Comedy Workshops, but will also see music performances from our community music groups Dilly Choir, The Ramshackle Orkestra, and our teacher Paul Malia performing a song written in response to the 2019/20 black summer Bushfires. We are also excited to partner with Wollondilly Shire Council and the Youth Advisory Group (YAG) in putting on the Rock the Dilly youth music event on 20th April at the Picton Botanical Gardens in their new purpose built performance stage. Humour and Music Variety Night - 12th April 6pm, Borwal Memorial Hall Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating 'Strength Through Adversity' presented with NSW Health and Wingecarribee Shire Council Mark your calendars for April 12th 6pm for the LIVE Event, with an very special exhibition open from 2pm. This FREE event will provide a diverse lineup of music, comedy, and exhibitions that showcase resilience and triumph. Let's come together to uplift, inspire, and embrace the power of overcoming challenges. This night includes stand up comedy from local Wollondilly and Wingecarribee up and coming Comedians, performances by the Dilly Choir, Ramshackle Orkestra, and Paul Malia, and special presentation by local artist and author Marjorie Kay. The night will also be hosted by the very talented and hilarious Laura Hughes. An Exhibition open from 2pm will also present creative works and stories by and organisations and individuals impacted by the Black Summer bushfires. Don't miss out on this incredible variety night! Youth Week - Rock The Dilly We are excited to partner with Wollondilly Shire Council and the Youth Advisory Group (YAG) in putting on the Rock the Dilly youth music event on 20th April at the Picton Botanical Gardens in their new purpose built performance stage. This event is gearing up to be quite awesome! We're stoked to be part of something that showcases the amazing talent in our local youth Save the date - more info coming soon! Reminder we have Pat as our own Registered Music Therapist! To attain this distinction, Pat successfully completed a Master of Music Therapy and fulfilled the registration requirements with the Australian Music Therapy Association Music therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses music and musical elements to address physical, emotional, cognitive, and social needs of individuals. Music therapists are trained professionals who use their musical expertise to assist people achieve specific therapeutic goals and enhance their overall wellbeing. Coding and Robotics Program Back for Term 2 Designed to have fun while exploring the exciting world of creative coding and robotics. This 8 week program will get them thinking with problem solving, designing, building and programming. A fun, one hour session with the program finishing up at our end of year celebration ‘River Fest’ with their robots and games on display!
Through the program, students will explore Scratch, Java, Python coding languages, circuitry and ardiuno boards, and robotics including designing and building robots. Look for Term 2 dates and times soon or contact Pat patrick@riverroad.edu.au to out your names on the list |

Mixed Creative Arts Program This 10 week program allows students to explore commonly used art mediums towards developing creative and artistic skills. This includes, drawing, shading to photo editing - all while encouraging self expression, fun, creativity. Every week will have something new for students to explore whilst building on the skills taught in lessons before. Creative Youth Drop Sessions Our Tuesday night Creative Youth Drop In Sessions are back and on each Tuesday night from 7pm, where young people can come to a safe and relaxing space to make music, form bands, and create art! River Road and Vinnies Collaboration Did you know that we have been going on tour every week to run musical workshops with the amazing people at Creative Space Southern Highlands? 🎵🎶 Run by Vinnies Australia, The Creative Space is an inclusive, welcoming, and safe place for adults. They want to make sure everyone has access to the arts so they run all sorts of amazing creative workshops for the community. 🧡 We kick these off again every Thursday 11am at the Creative Space, Unit 6-7/63-69 Kirkham Rd, Bowral NSW |

Wollondilly Mens Music Cave Reminder our Mens Music Cave meets the last Sunday of the Month, 9am-11am, with the next session 31st March. The mens music cave meet the last Sunday of each month and welcome all male in the Wollndilly to join us in making some music, having a chat, and enjoying som breakfast. It was great to see new members join the caver last Sunday! This is a free activity funded by the Wollondilly Shire Council Community Grants program! |
